Lady Eagles Open the 2025 Season with a Region Victory

Game Recap:
The Lady Eagles opened their 2025 regular season at home with a South Region matchup against the newest member, Baptist University of Florida. Riding the momentum of an undefeated preseason in which they didn't drop a single set, the Lady Eagles carried that confidence into their opener and kept the streak alive with a 3-0 sweep over BUF in "The Nest".

The match began with First Team All-American Sydney Anderson making her presence felt early, recording three kills in the Lady Eagles' first five points. While BUF battled to keep pace, the Lady Eagles never trailed, only tying once at 1-1 in the opening moments of the match. They closed the first set with a steady 25-19 victory.

BUF came out stronger in the second, fueled by service aces from Hope Brooks and Allie Whiting to take an early 3-0 lead and later push ahead 9-5. After BUF tied things up at 10, the Lady Eagles responded with a 7-1 run to regain control at 17-11. BUF, however, refused to go away, storming back to tie the set 22-22 after five straight points. Following a timeout from Coach Vanderboegh, the Lady Eagles regrouped and finished strong, forcing a service error before back-to-back kills from Madisyn Kandel and Anna Stephens sealed the 25-22 win.

In the third, BUF once again tried to extend the match, jumping ahead 3-1. But a pair of kills from Lyssie Metzker flipped the momentum, and the Lady Eagles never looked back. Behind dominant scoring runs of 3-0, 4-0, and 5-0, they closed the set convincingly at 25-14, completing the sweep in front of the electric home crowd.

The Lady Eagles were led by junior Lyssie Metzker, who posted 14 kills, 22 serve receptions, and 14 digs. Freshman Madisyn Kandel delivered an impressive collegiate debut with 11 kills and 15 digs. The setter duo of Allie Whiting and Olivia Boyd rounded out the night with 41 combined assists (Whiting 20, Boyd 21) on the team's 47 kills.
