Eagles Edge Lions 1-0 for their Seventh Win of the Season

Match Recap:
After a road win over Huntingdon College earlier in the week, the Eagles returned to Pensacola with a 3-0-1 record in their last four matches. For just the second time in program history, the Eagles faced off against the Freed-Hardeman University Lions. Following last season's inaugural meeting, a 1-4 loss, the Eagles came in determined to flip the script. Through 75 minutes of scoreless play, the breakthrough finally came as the Eagles found the back of the net for the decisive goal, sealing a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

The Eagles opened the match aggressively, outshooting Freed-Hardeman 7-1 in the first 26 minutes. Despite multiple quality chances and five saves by the Lions' keeper, the Eagles couldn't capitalize early. In the closing 15 minutes of the half, the momentum shifted slightly as Freed-Hardeman outshot the Eagles 6-2, though none of their attempts found the target. The teams went into halftime locked in a 0-0 tie.

Freed-Hardeman came out swinging in the second half, forcing an early save from Hammond and earning a corner kick that led to another close chance. The Eagles quickly countered with three unanswered shots, two of which came from the game leader in attempts, Jackson Clarke. As the half progressed, the Eagles continued to press, recording five more unanswered shots between the 68th and 75th minute.

Finally, in the 76th minute, the breakthrough arrived. After a deflected corner kick, the Eagles regrouped for another attempt, and this time, it connected. A perfectly placed ball from Romero found the head of 6'6" center back Boaz DaSilva at the back post, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead with just 14 minutes remaining. In the closing stretch, Freed-Hardeman launched an all-out attack, recording four shots and earning three yellow cards in the final 10 minutes. But the Eagles stood tall defensively, weathering the storm to secure their seventh win of the season.

What's Next:
The Eagles have a week off before their most anticipated match of the season, a Saturday night home showdown against South Region rival Bob Jones University. With the all-time series sitting at 6-7-1 in favor of the Bruins, the Eagles aim to even the record at seven wins each. The last regular season meeting in Pensacola ended in a 1-1 draw, an outcome neither side will settle for this time. Kickoff is set for 7 PM. Come out to Eagle Field and cheer on your Eagles in this top-tier matchup between the #1 and #2 teams in the nation!
