Eagles Return to the Win Column with a Region Victory over Toccoa Falls

Game Recap:
After suffering a tough road loss to Trinity Baptist College, the Eagles quickly regrouped and focused on their next South Region opponent, the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles. With an 18-14 historical record against TFC, the Eagles were aiming for win #19. The game was a back-and-forth battle, with the largest lead being just 10 points. But when the final buzzer sounded, the Eagles soared victorious, claiming a 70-65 win.

The Eagles started the game strong, with Paul Stickles and Aaron Wagner knocking down back-to-back threes to give the Eagles a 6-0 lead early. They managed to hold the lead for most of the first nine minutes, but after a Kaiden Pack layup, Toccoa went on a quick 11-0 run in just two minutes. For the next few minutes, Toccoa held off the Eagles' comeback attempts, leading 33-24 with under four minutes left in the half. However, after a putback layup from Liam Gerdts, the Eagles went on an 11-0 run of their own, with Gerdts closing out the first half by hitting a buzzer-beater three-pointer to give the Eagles a 35-33 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, both teams traded baskets, but a three-pointer from Stickles put the Eagles back in the lead, 38-35, with 19 minutes to go. The Eagles' largest lead came after a steal by Pack, followed by an assist to Brandtley Koske, which gave them a 44-38 advantage with 15 minutes left. With just under five minutes remaining, Toccoa regained a four-point lead, but Liam Gerdts scored 8-straight points to keep the Eagles in the game. With the score going back and forth in the final moments, Pack's three-pointer gave the Eagles the lead again with two minutes remaining. They never looked back. With 18 seconds left, Toccoa fouled Wagner, sending him to the free-throw line with the Eagles leading 68-65. The senior stepped up and hit both free throws, extending the lead to 70-65. After Wagner sealed the win with a steal, the Eagles claimed their first victory of 2025 and their first South Region win of the season.

Liam Gerdts led the Eagles with 22 points, 7 rebounds, a block, and a steal. Senior Aaron Wagner contributed 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, delivering both clutch scoring and defense. Kaiden Pack also had a strong performance, finishing with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.
