Faulkner Defeats the Lady Eagles on Opening Night

Game Recap:
For the first time since 2009, Faulkner University traveled to Pensacola, Florida to face the PCC Lady Eagles in a volleyball match. After the Lady Eagles took the win in set one, the Lady Eagles fell short in the next three sets. Although the team took their third loss of the season, there is much to learn and grow into after tonight's match.

Early in the first set, a seven-serve run put together by Allie Whiting opened the scoring for the Lady Eagles, putting them out to an early 10-3 lead.  With Faulkner trying to battle their way back into the set, the Lady Eagles never let them closer than four points. Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles near the end of the first set, junior Hannah Romero went down with an injury and was unable to return for the remainder of the match, but the Lady Eagles were able to come together and take the first set by a final score of 25-20.

The teams were locked in a battle in the second set, with seven lead changes throughout the set. Looking at an 18-19 deficit, Faulkner was able to close the set on a 7-1 run and pull away with the win in set two. With a hot 9-2 start for Faulkner, the Lady Eagles couldn't get back into set number three and ultimately fell 25-17. However, with a relentless mentality, the Lady Eagles battled their way through the fourth set. With four lead changes in the set, both teams were unwilling to give into the other. With each team going on multiple 3-0 and 4-0 runs and the match on the line it came down to the wire. Even finding themselves down 24-20 the Lady Eagles wouldn't give up… with a last-ditch effort the team went on a 3-0 run with freshman Sydney Anderson on the service line, but after a match-ending kill by Faulkner the Lady Eagles suffered their third loss of the season.

Leading the offensive attack was Lyssie Metzker who recorded a match-high 15 kills on a match-high 49 attempts. Leading the match in assists was sophomore setter Helen Payton with 39. With 15 total points scored, freshman Sydney Anderson also led the match with 2 solo blocks along with sophomore Megan Kinsey who also recorded 2 solo blocks.
