Eagles End Their Season as the South Region Runner-Up

Game Recap:
For the first time since the 2015-2016 season, the Eagles basketball team competed for the title of 2024 Regional Champions. Facing off against Bob Jones University for the third time this season, the South Region rivals met in the Region Championship game. After a low-scoring first half, the second half was similar to the first… with a final score of 67-54 the Eagles fell short of their goal and ended their 2023-2024 season as the South Region Runner-Up.
 
After the Bruins opened the game with 4-5 3PT shooting in the first four minutes, the Eagles found themselves down 14-7 early. After the first bucket by Bob Jones, the Eagles were behind for the entirety of the game. Although the Eagles battled and got the deficit as little as 2 points in the first half and 5 points in the second half, the Bruins commanded the lead for all 40 minutes. As the first half progressed, there were only four Eagles who scored in the opening frame. When the halftime buzzer sounded, the Eagles found themselves down 23-32 with only 20 minutes remaining in the championship game.
 
After the Eagles' opening possession led to a Liam Gerdts layup, The deficit was cut to 7 points… but unfortunately, as the half progressed the Bruins never allowed the Eagles to get closer than 5 points (36-31). With 12 fouls in the second half, the Eagles sent BJU to the free throw line 18 times… as a team, the Bruins shot 22-28 from the free throw line throughout the game and 14-18 in the second half. As the final buzzer sounded, the Eagles fell 13-points short of the Region Championship. Leading the offense was Liam Gerdts who recorded 27 points on 12-20 FG shooting for his second-highest scoring performance of the season.
