Eagles are Heading to the Championship

Game Recap:
For the ninth time in program history, the Eagles took part in the NCCAA DII South Region Tournament—and for the first time since 2020, they enjoyed the advantage of home-field advantage. That 2020 tournament was memorable for the wrong reasons, as the TBC Eagles knocked out the Eagles in the semifinals. But tonight was different. With an early surge and a dominant performance, the Eagles cruised to a 6-1 victory, securing a spot in the 2024 South Region Championship game.

After dropping three of their last four matches, the Eagles were eager to turn things around in a big way. Freshman striker Jackson Clarke wasted no time, scoring twice within the first eight minutes to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. They would not let up. Just over ten minutes later, a header from Boaz DaSilva off a Branson Phelps corner kick extended the lead to 3-0, a score that would hold until halftime. With a 7-2 record when leading at the half, the Eagles were confident their closing of the match if they kept up their pressure and intensity.

Early in the second half, DaSilva struck again with another header, this time off a corner kick from senior Enok Hwang, pushing the Eagles' lead to 4-0 with 35 minutes still to play. Trinity Baptist managed to pull one back with a goal from a corner kick in the 60th minute, but the Eagles responded quickly. Senior Lourenco Goncalves added two goals in the 78th and 82nd minutes, sealing the 6-1 victory and sending the Eagles to their fourth South Region Championship appearance. As the final whistle blew, the Eagles were ready to ride the momentum of this dominant win into their upcoming championship clash with Bob Jones University.

What's Next:
This Saturday, the Eagles will face South Region rival Bob Jones University in the NCCAA South Region Championship game! Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM. Be sure to come out to Eagle Field to see who will claim the title of South Region Champion!
