Lady Eagles Remain Unbeaten Through Week Two

Game Recap:
After a perfect start to the season, the Lady Eagles made the short trip to Monroeville, AL, to face the Coastal Alabama Community College Coyotes. With an undefeated 3-0 record against Coastal Alabama–North, the Lady Eagles entered the game with confidence. A hard-fought first half saw the Lady Eagles pull ahead in the third quarter, eventually extending their lead to secure an 82-64 win. With the victory, the Lady Eagles improved to 5-0 on the season and 4-0 against Coastal Alabama–North.

In the opening period, the Lady Eagles made their presence felt defensively, forcing 9 turnovers, including 6 steals. However, they were unable to convert those turnovers into points. Despite this, Sky Boyd and Alissa Brewer combined for 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting to keep the game tied at the end of the first quarter. After being outrebounded 15-3 in the opening frame, the Lady Eagles responded by dominating the glass in the second quarter, outrebounding the Coyotes 13-7. Boyd's 17 points and Gracee Bieber's 5 points and 6 rebounds off the bench helped the Lady Eagles hold a slim 39-35 lead at halftime.

The Lady Eagles came out of the break looking to assert themselves, a trend they've followed all season in the third quarter. After some back-and-forth early on, an and-one by Alissa Brewer ignited a 12-6 run to end the quarter, pushing their lead to 14 points heading into the final frame. Freshman Abigail Winslow led the charge in the fourth, scoring 9 points as the Lady Eagles maintained a double-digit advantage. The lead swelled to as much as 21 points with just 3:40 left, and the Lady Eagles cruised to the 82-64 win.

Sky Boyd was the offensive leader with 25 points on 47% shooting from the field and 50% from three. Alissa Brewer followed closely with 22 points, shooting 56% from the floor and a perfect 100% from the free-throw line. Defensively, Amy Ahrens blocked 3 shots and grabbed 4 rebounds, while Kristin Mentzer and Abigail Winslow each recorded 3 steals as part of the Lady Eagles' impressive 15 steals as a team. With four of their five victories coming by 18+ points, the Lady Eagles continue to dominate their opponents.
