Eagles Lose High Scoring Game with Southeastern Illinois

Game Recap:
In a fast-paced and hard-fought contest, the Eagles held a narrow four-point lead at halftime. However, a second-half barrage of 33 free throws by Southeastern proved too much to overcome as the Eagles were outscored by 10 points in the final frame, ultimately falling to the Falcons 99-93 in the highest-scoring game of the season.

The game got off to a strong start for the Eagles, as Kaiden Pack opened with a steal and quick layup on the first possession. With Southeastern Illinois playing four games in as many days, the Eagles looked to capitalize on their opponent's fatigue early. The Eagles led by as many as 9 points late in the first half, with Liam Gerdts tying for the game-high with 13 points. The Eagles' defense was also stifling, forcing 12 turnovers and collecting 6 steals. Despite a late 4-0 surge by Southeastern, the Eagles held a 44-40 lead at the break. Coming into the game, the Eagles were undefeated (2-0) when leading at halftime.

The second half started with a 5-0 run by Southeastern, which shifted the momentum in favor of the Falcons. The Eagles answered back, and a free throw by Josh Azucena gave them their largest lead of the game—nine points with just over 8 minutes remaining. But as the game wore on, Southeastern mounted a 28-12 run to take a 10-point lead with 23 seconds left. Despite late three-pointers from Aaron Wagner and Lucas Hernandez, the Eagles fell short by six, 99-93. The game was marked by an unusually high number of fouls—56 in total—and 78 free throws, with the Eagles fouling out two players and six players in the game having 4 fouls for both teams. Although the Eagles shot an impressive 88% from the free-throw line, the Falcons shot 12 more free throws, which played a pivotal role in the outcome of this game.
