Lady Eagles Open the Season with a Big Win

Game Recap:
With a fresh roster featuring six newcomers and two returning fifth-year players, the Lady Eagles took the court for their first game of the 2024-2025 season against the Campbellsville University Harrodsburg Pioneers on Thursday night. The contest saw four lead changes in the opening quarter, but the Lady Eagles pace and pressure allowed them to eventually pulled away, securing a decisive 93-74 victory.

In the first quarter, the Lady Eagles showcased their defensive prowess with 8 steals and 16 forced turnovers. However, they struggled to convert those opportunities, ending the quarter with a narrow 25-22 lead. The second quarter brought more defensive success, as the team added 5 more steals and forced an additional 10 turnovers. This time, the Lady Eagles capitalized effectively, spreading the scoring across 10 players and taking a 50-37 lead into halftime.

The third quarter marked a shift in momentum as the Lady Eagles exploded with a 16-4 run right out of the gate. Sophomore Sky Boyd was a key contributor, scoring 10 of those 16 points. Throughout the run, the combination of Sky Boyd, Abigail Winslow, and Alissa Brewer assisted or scored on every score during the teams 16-4 run. By the end of the quarter, the Lady Eagles extended their lead to 70-56. In the fourth quarter, the team's relentless pace continued, with scoring contributions from all 10 players on the floor, sealing the game with a final score of 94-73. Leading the charge were Sky Boyd with 19 points and redshirt freshman Abby Matney, who added 14 points off the bench with a strong 4/8 shooting performance from three-point range. The standout performance came from fifth-year senior Alissa Brewer, who, along with 4 steals, topped the team in points (19), assists (10), rebounds (7), and minutes played (31).
