Lady Eagles with a Big Comeback Win Over Coastal Alabama

Game Recap:
Just 32 days ago, the Lady Eagles faced off against Coastal Alabama Community College – South, suffering a gut-wrenching loss in a 5-set match. With 11 games played since then, the Lady Eagles and Coyotes squared off again, this time in "The Nest." After falling to an early 0-2 deficit and losing starter Lyssie Metzker to an apparent ankle injury, the Lady Eagles summoned their strength and clinched three consecutive set wins, ultimately defeating the Coyotes 3-2!

Despite dropping the first two sets, the Lady Eagles were only narrowly outscored 53-49. In the first set, their largest deficit reached 15-10 before Coach Ohman called a timeout. They fought back to claim a 23-22 lead later in the set, but with three kills and a service ace, the Coyotes edged out set one 26-24. In a familiar pattern, the Lady Eagles found themselves down 9-3 early in set two, yet rallied to take a 24-23 lead. However, a late 4-1 run from the Coyotes gave them a two-set advantage.

Following Metzker's injury early in set three, the Lady Eagles focused on keeping the match alive. Michaila Kinney stepped up with 6 kills off the bench, helping the team throughout the comeback. After being outscored 53-49 in the first two sets, the Lady Eagles turned the tide, outscoring the Coyotes 65-49 in the final three sets. Once they fell behind 5-4 early in the third, the Lady Eagles regained control, winning the set 25-19. In set four, they burst out of the gate with a 5-0 run, quickly interrupted by a Coyote timeout. The Coyotes responded with an 8-0 run, but the Lady Eagles fought back, winning the set 25-19. Having previously lost their only two five-set matches (against Bob Jones and Coastal Alabama), the Lady Eagles were fueled by determination to win a fifth set. They surged to a 5-0 lead early in the set and maintained their advantage, closing out the set 15-11 and winning the match 3-2 against the Coyotes.

Offensively, the Lady Eagles were led by freshman Sydney Anderson who recorded 16 kills on 29 attempts (.345), and freshman Olivia Boyd who had 13 kills on a career-high 54 attempts! Defensively, Allie Whiting led the way with 24 digs closely followed by Hope Brooks (22) and Helen Payton (20). With a net presence, freshman Sydney Anderson tied her career high in blocks with 8 (6 block solo and 2 block assists) and sophomore Megan Kinsey had 3 blocks as well for the Lady Eagles. As a team, the Lady Eagles tied their season-high with 102 digs and nearly tied their season-high in total kills with 58.
