Lady Eagles Win Their Fourth in a Row Against Bob Jones

Game Recap:
The Lady Eagles re-entered the Davis Field House for the 30th time. With an 18-11 record against the Lady Bruins, the Lady Eagles came in looking for win number 20. Although the Lady Eagles jumped out to a hot 7-0 start, the Lady Bruins put up a fight. But when the final buzzer sounded the Lady Eagles were victorious by a final score of 74-66.

With an early 7-0 run to start the game and scoring coming from three different players, the Lady Eagles looked good out of the gates. As the teams battled, the score was 17-14 with 1:49 left in the first quarter, and that's the way it ended. With both teams going scoreless in almost two full minutes of play, the first quarter score was 17-14. At the halftime break the score stood at 34-29 with the Lady Eagles holding the lead for the entirety of the first half. Kristin Mentzer entered the break leading all scorers with 7 points on 3-4 shooting from the field.

Just the same as the first half, the Lady Eagles opened the second half on a 9-0 run that extended their lead to 14! With a made three-pointer from BJU, the Lady Bruins then put an 8-0 run of their own shrinking the lead back down to 6 points. As the third quarter concluded, the Lady Eagles still held the lead 50-43. The fourth quarter was a true roller coaster ride. With BJU cutting the lead down to 4, the freshman Sky Boyd knocked down a three-pointer to push the lead back up to 7. After a Bob Jones three, the Lady Eagles were able to once again put a stretch together and went on an 8-0 run from 8:01–5:38. But the Lady Bruins once again clawed their way back and cut the lead down to 3 with 1:09 left on the game clock. But with the clutch free throws from the Lady Eagles (7-8 in the last minute) the Lady Eagles pulled out the 74-66 victory.

With just 21 minutes played and coming off the bench, Sky Boyd led the team offensively with 19 points while grabbing 6 rebounds. But the performance of the night goes to Montse Torres who set a new career-high with 17 rebounds crushing her previous high of 12 rebounds! With 6-12 FG shooting, Kristin Mentzer was able to record 14 points in the Lady Eagles victory.
