Eagles Fall Short in Final Seconds to Bob Jones

Game Recap:
After a tightly contested victory over Trinity Baptist College, the Eagles traveled to South Carolina to play against Bob Jones University for the 21st matchup of these programs. With a true battle till the end, the Eagles fell short of victory by a final score of 63-64.

After both teams scored on their first possession, it was obvious early that this would be a game to remember. Throughout the game, there was never a double-digit lead and there were 12 lead changes… this was truly a battle. As the first half progressed, although the scoring was back-and-forth it was the Bruins who held the lead for nearly the entire first half at one point growing their lead to a game-high of 9 points. As the teams entered the break, it was the turnover count that was the most concerning. With 12 turnovers in the first half by PCC and only 6 turnovers by BJU the Eagles had to take care of the ball in order to win the game.

As the second half began the Bruins held a 36-29 lead over the Eagles… but not for long. With three defensive stops in a row, the Eagles cut the lead down to three. As the game reached the 12-minute mark, the Eagles were able to tie the game 47-47 with a timely bucket from Brandtley Koske (11pts). After almost two minutes of play, the Bruins regained the lead from the free-throw line. But with 5 points in a row from bench players Paul Stickles and Titus Anderson, the Eagles found themselves ahead by four! With just over 4-minutes left on the clock, the game was once again tied… 54-54. With nine lead changes in the final four minutes, the ending of the game was unforgettable. With 1:08 left on the clock, Liam Gerdts (who recorded a 13pt/13reb double-double) gave the Eagles the 61-60 lead with his uncontested layup. Coming out of a timeout, the Bruins were able to convert on a steal and dunk that gave them a 62-61 lead with 25 seconds remaining, Aaron Wagner followed by scoring his first points of the game on a tough baseline drive and finish. With a quick inbound, the Bruins rushed down the floor and hit a pull-up jumper with just 3.2 seconds remaining regaining a 64-63 lead that would ultimately hold up. With a deflection and opportunity at the buzzer, the Eagles' shot fell short and ultimately resulted in the 63-64 loss to the Bruins.
