Lady Eagles Lose to Simmons College of KY in the National Tournament 3rd Place Game

The Lady Eagles suffered their second loss at the national tournament, falling short of the 3rd place victory over Simmons College of Kentucky. Although the Lady Eagles suffered the 68—79 loss, Simmons only outscored the Eagles by an average of 2.75 points per quarter.
 
After a back and forth first seven minutes, Simmons ended the first quarter on a 9—2 run extending their lead to 23—16. Although the Lady Eagles remained resilient, they went into halftime down 36—45. Throughout the second half, the teams were locked in a back and forth battle having a scoring difference of just 2 points in the entire half! Unfortunately, PCC was never able to gain the momentum needed to pull off the comeback victory. However, the offensive efforts put forth by both Leah Phelps and Jenna Wolford helped maintain the Lady Eagles offense throughout the game. Senior Leah Phelps totaled 21 points on 6-17 FG shooting and going 9-11 from the charity stripe. However, Jenna Wolford tied for game-high points, recording 22 points on 4/12 shooting from behind the arc as well as grabbing 7 rebounds.
 
Unfortunately, this loss is the conclusion of the Lady Eagles incredibly successful 2022-2023 season. For the entirety of the season, the Lady Eagles remained in the top 3 during the coaches poll as well as being top 6 in power ratings. Furthermore, for the 6th season in a row, the Lady Eagles have obtained 20+ wins. As the season concluded with a loss, the Lady Eagles exit the 2023 national tournament the same way they entered, as the #4 team in the nation!
