Eagles Win Their Seventh Straight, Defeating Toccoa Falls College

The Eagles win their seventh straight game against #5 ranked Toccoa Falls College by a final of 71—69. With a four point deficit going into halftime, the Eagles knew the second half would be a physical and hard fought battle!

After going down quickly to a 3—10 deficit in the opening minutes, the Eagles made a push to close the gap early in the second half. After taking a 27—26 lead with five minutes remaining in the half, the Eagles attempted to coast into halftime. However, after a late 9—4 run in the first half by Toccoa, the Eagles found themselves down four at halftime. Coming down to the wire, the Eagles found themselves once again down four, but with only 1 minute remaining. After a strong take and finish by junior Brandtley Koske, the Eagles were now down only two with 40 seconds remaining. Needing a defensive stop, the Eagles locked up on defense and stopped Toccoa from pushing back to their previous two possession lead. With just 25 seconds left on the clock senior guard Austin Lewis found himself with the ball, Lewis' defender slid underneath the screen by Liam Gerdts which allowed Lewis to knock down the dagger step-back three! Needing another stop, the Eagles held strong once more and called a timeout after grabbing the defensive rebound with just 4.7 seconds left. Being fouled with 3.1 seconds left on the clock AJ Ward stepped up to the FT line with the game on the line. Ward made the front half of the one-and-one but missed the second shot. With a halfcourt heave that missed right, the Eagles pulled out the upset victory in nail-biting fashion. Austin Lewis led the Eagles in scoring with 21 points along with swiping 3 steals. Following their fellow senior, AJ Ward recorded 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds while Christian Porter put up 10 points and dished out 2 assists.
