Eagles Win Sixth Straight Game and Defeat Bob Jones University

The Eagles defeated the Bob Jones University Bruins 82–80 on Saturday, February 4. The close competition kept Eagles fans at the edge of their seats during white out night in "The Nest."

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with 13 lead changes as the offenses continually exchanged buckets. Liam Gerdts was unstoppable in the paint, scoring 19 points before the half. The Eagles went into halftime with a one-point lead, up 40–39. The Bruins came out of the locker room with a strong 21–8 run to start the second half, taking a 12-point lead. The Eagles countered with a 9–0 run of their own, fueled by a pair of three-pointers by AJ Ward, to make it 61–64 with less than nine minutes to play.

The game came to an exciting climax in the final five minutes, when the Eagles tied the game and then took their first lead since halftime. It remained a one-score difference for nearly the rest of the game, as both teams matched each other shot for shot. The determining moment came in the final 18 seconds. The Eagles up 79–78, Liam Gerdts found AJ Ward with a no-look pass in the paint that led to an open layup, stretching the Eagles' lead to 81–78. Ten seconds later, on the defensive end of the court, AJ Ward drew a charge from BJU's Brian Sims to clinch the game. The Eagles would hold on to win 82–80. The Eagles were led by Liam Gerdts with 29 points and AJ Ward with 23 points and 8 rebounds; also Joshua Alexander contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds off the bench with 28 minutes played.

Tuesday, the Eagles head to Georgia to take on NCCAA South Region opponent Toccoa Falls College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.; tune in and cheer for the Eagles to reach their seventh win in a row and their seventh South Region victory.
