Game Recap:

The Eagles fell to the Welch College Flames in the final game of a three-game home stretch. This 77-65 loss handed the Flames their second victory of the season, while allotting the Eagles their third defeat against an NCCAA opponent.

The first eight minutes of the opening half resembled an intense badminton match. Neither team found success at the free-throw line and two lead changes occurred after the score drew even six times. Both teams' front courts led the way in scoring in the opening minutes of the first half: Welch's graduate student Tyler Erdman converted 16 of his 18 points on 77% shooting and Pensacola Christian's Malachi Herbster had 10 first half points.

The Flames succeeded in the back-and-forth opening minutes with a four minute, 9 to 4 run. Freshman guard Tony Gaines provided 10 points off the bench, which aided the stretching of the Flame's lead. The Eagle's first half turnovers allowed the Flame's to maintain a staggering lead. The Eagles' front court were ironically the culprits behind the unbalanced first half turnover total. Despite being responsible for 25/29 first half points, the Eagles front court coughed the ball up 13 times, compared to the team's total 17 turnovers. The Flames found success in the Eagle's turnover dilemma, capitalizing with 15 first half points off turnovers.

Trailing by as much as 22 four minutes into the second half, Herbster and Liam Gerdts continued to have offensive interior success in the second half. Herbster added another 10 points to his career-high night of 20 points, along with four rebounds. Gerdts finished with 17 points, along with 2 blocks and 5 boards. Despite trailing the majority of the fourth quarter, the Eagles were able to cut the deficit to 9 points with thirty seconds remaining in regulation, after a corner three by Gerdts, assisted by freshman Jake Longo.
