Eagles Soccer Take a Tough Early Season Loss

The Eagles planned to open their 2022 season in Temple Terrace, FL against Florida College Thursday, August 18 but due to lightning that game was canceled. Therefore, the Eagles played their season opening match against Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida. Battling through the weather delay and two hours of waiting, the Eagles took a tough 2-0 loss to the Warner University Royals.

Over the years, the Eagles have retained the ability to possess the ball and work it up the field. But facing the Royals, the Eagles unfortunately struggled to turn possession into scoring opportunities. They could not get the scoring opportunities they looked for or convert on the opportunities they gained. The Eagles held and often built runs through maintained possession and controlled passing, but even with a strong push offensively in the second half of play, the Eagles could not execute. Goalkeeper Adam Lund recorded 7 saves for his team, matching the goalkeeping of the Warner University Royals. With a back line of defenders who are all first season players, freshman Matias Lee helped lead this young Eagles defense from the center back position against the Warner University offense.

Looking forward in their season, the Eagles host the Florida College Falcons this coming Thursday, September 1, on Eagle Field. After a quick home appearance, the Eagles hit the road and head for Georgia to take on their NAIA opponent LaGrange College on Saturday, September 3.
