2022 NCCAA MSOC South Region Tournament Wrap Up

The Eagles participated in the 2022 NCCAA South Region soccer tournament. Entering the tournament as the number two seed, the Eagles had high hopes going into this year's tournament.

The Eagles' first game was against Johnson University of Florida. The Eagles came into this game without having played against Johnson in the regular season. Coach Liwosz had prepared his players well. The first goal came within the first 15 minutes of the game. With an assist from RaMont Rhodes, Lourenço Gonçalves was able to score the second goal of his PCC career in one of the biggest games of the year. Coming into the second half of the match, Clint Peterson did not feel that a one-goal lead was enough, so just one minute into the second half, a freekick from Chase Hawkins led Clint Peterson to score a goal! The Eagles won the Region Semifinal match by a final score of 2–0! This match effectively put PCC into the championship game against Bob Jones University.

After losing the regular season match by a score of 1–0, the Eagles wanted redemption against NCCAA opponent Bob Jones. The Eagles allowed a goal just four minutes into the game, but they would not let that early setback keep them from fighting for the win. Throughout the game, scoring opportunities bounced between the teams. Midway through the first half, freshman Gabe Burton scored the Eagles' first goal of the game. In the second half, Lourenço Gonçalves scored his third Eagles goal and the team's second and final goal of the game. However, these two goals were unable to mount a big enough comeback to defeat the number one ranked team in the nation Bob Jones University.

A few of our Eagles soccer players received South Region awards. In their senior season, Clint Peterson and Adam Lund were awarded First Team All-Region for the NCCAA South Region, and for his second year in a row sophomore Dakotah Barchus also won NCCAA First Team All-Region. In their sophomore season, Matias Lee and Lourenço Gonçalves were both awarded the NCCAA South Region, Second Team All-Region.

With the conclusion of this tournament, the Eagles now await the National Tournament announcement to determine whether they will be heading to the 2022 NCCAA National Tournament!
