Lady Eagles Defeat Chargers on Senior Night

On February 12, the Lady Eagles played the Southeastern Baptist Chargers for the third time this season. The Lady Eagles had won their previous two games against the Chargers and were hoping to walk away with another win. This game was not only the last home game of the season, but it was also Senior Night. The Lady Eagles honored their two seniors, Hope Baker and Elise Cauthen, before starting line-ups. Both seniors had played Lady Eagles Basketball all four years.

The first quarter would set the stage for the entire game. The Lady Eagles gave up the first bucket, but they quickly answered with a bucket of their own. The Chargers scored again before Jenna Wolford drained a 3-pointer to give the Lady Eagles the lead. They would not lose the lead for the rest of the game. The Lady Eagles dominated the remainder of the quarter scoring 21 points compared to the Chargers 9 points.

The Lady Eagles gave up 3 points to start the second quarter, but they would not let that moment define the quarter. They quickly increased their lead to 14 points. The Lady Eagles fought hard allowing their lead to drop below 10 points only once before the final minute of the half, when a turnover and steal resulted in a bucket for the Chargers. The Lady Eagles led 44–36 heading into the half.

The Lady Eagles started out the third quarter slow. The lead they had worked hard to build slowly diminished. Although the Lady Eagles were scoring, they could not stop Southeastern's offense. With just under three minutes to go, the Lady Eagles lead dropped to 1-point. Then Jenna Wolford made two free throws, and Carissa Akin made a shot to put the Lady Eagles up by 5-points to end the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles had once again found their groove. A few minutes was all the Lady Eagles needed to put themselves up 11-points. Shortly after their lead lengthened, it dropped to 6-points, but the Lady Eagles pushed through. Point-by-point the Lady Eagles pushed farther ahead until they had an 18-point lead. Three made free throws by the Chargers within the last minute made the final score 86–71, the Lady Eagles with the victory.

It was a high night of scoring as five Lady Eagles scored in double digits. Alissa Brewer had her second-straight game as the high scorer with 20 points. Not far behind was Lauran Alvarez with 17-points and Sandy McElhaney with 16-points.
