On Saturday, September 26, the Eagles soccer team competed against the Talladega Tornadoes. Coming into the game, the Eagles were 0-3 in program history when facing Talladega, but through hard work and determination the Eagles were able to pull out their first win against Talladega.
The Eagles came out strong in the first half putting good offensive pressure on Talladega. After twelve shot attempts, a foul in the penalty box gave the perfect opportunity for the Eagles to score.
Riley Buchalski took advantage of the opportunity, putting the penalty kick in the back of the net and giving the Eagles the one goal lead heading into halftime.
Though they were up one goal, the Eagles knew an entire half laid between them and the victory. A few minutes into the second half, another foul in the penalty box led to
Riley Rhodes scoring the second penalty kick of the game, putting the Eagles up 2-0.
Being two goals up caused the Eagles to let their guard down and Talladega was able to bring the score to 2-1. The Eagles rose to the challenge that they now faced and a little over ten minutes later,
Riley Rhodes scored another goal. Less than two minutes after
Riley Rhodes' goal,
Riley Buchalski put in his second goal of the game to put the Eagles up 4-1. On another penalty kick attempt,
Lucas Sampaio added the fifth and final goal for the Eagles. With a few minutes left in the game, Talladega had their own penalty kick attempt, and Michael Garcia put the shot in the back of the net to bring the final score of the game to 5-2.
When asked about the game, Coach Liwosz made these remarks. "We didn't play as well as we wanted to in the first half but came out in the second half and played much more as a team, creating some great chances. I'm very proud of the ability of the guys to turn it around in the second half and being able to get everyone on the team involved in the game."
The Eagles next game is October 1, against Toccoa Falls College.
