Eagles Soccer Falls in Regular Season Opener

On Thursday, September 10, the PCC Eagles competed against Faulkner University in their first regular season match of the 2020 season. After finishing last season with a National Tournament Title, the Eagles came into the game with high hopes of starting their season off strong but were unable to come out with a win.

During the first half, Faulkner's tough defense and aggressive offense made it hard for PCC to find their groove. The first half ended with the Eagles having only six shot attempts on offense and allowing three goals on defense.
The Eagles came into the second half ready for a comeback. Just under fifteen minutes into the second half, Daniel Desouza made a beautiful chip pass to Riley Rhodes who headed it in to bring the score to 1–3, but shortly after, Faulkner University put another shot into the back of the net, allowing Faulkner to regain their three-goal lead. With five minutes left in the second half, a foul in the penalty box led to PCC (Zachary Kleuver) scoring a penalty kick. Then, in the last minute of the game, Faulkner University put in one more shot, bringing the final score to 2–5.

"For a first game of the season, I thought the team did well, especially with so many new players and starters," Coach Joseph Liwosz said. "We gave up the early goal on the corner kick but we came back and had a number of great chances that we should have finished to take the lead. We are definitely looking forward to going back to them on Saturday since we fell we left last night with some unfinished business."

The Eagles play this Saturday, September 12, in Montgomery, AL against Faulkner University.
