Lady Eagles get 10th Straight Win on Thursday’s Senior Night

The Lady Eagles extended their win streak to 10 after an 84-61 victory over Southeastern Baptist College on Thursday.

The Lady Eagles began Thursday's game with all four of their seniors, Emma Hardy, Caitlyn Benedik, Claire Jordan, and Jenna Deloach, on the court in honor of Senior Night. The veteran players started the game off strong with some solid defensive play, holding the Chargers to just 2 points in the opening minutes of the game. Just under halfway through the first quarter, Coach Sellars substituted two of his sharpshooters into the game, No. 2 Sandy McElhaney and No. 3 Leah Phelps. Both players hit a three in their first few minutes on the court to help keep the Lady Eagles ahead. The Lady Eagles ended the first quarter with an 8-0 scoring run that culminated in a 3-pointer by No. 10 Caitlyn Benedik, who got her shot off a fraction of a second before time expired.

The Lady Eagles opened the second quarter with a slew of attempted threes that did not pay off as they went 0-7 from deep in the first five minutes. Both teams thrived on the defensive end of the court for most of the second, resulting in a low-scoring quarter for both teams. The Lady Eagles were able to end their offensive stagnation thanks to a quick 5 points from Benedik in the final minute of the half to take a 39-23 lead into the break.

After halftime, both offenses were reenergized and scored a combined 15 points in the opening minute and a half of the third quarter. Southeastern's 6-2 center, No. 33 Rashida Cheddick, had 11 rebounds in the third quarter, giving her team multiple opportunities to score. But the Chargers continually missed their shots, providing the Lady Eagles with room to extend their lead. As the third quarter drew to a close, the Lady Eagles had created a comfortable 20-point lead over the visitors.

The fourth quarter was the seniors' time to shine and they did not disappoint, combing for a total of 17 points and 6 rebounds. With every score from the seniors, the crowd rose to their feet with ecstatic cheers, especially when No. 13 Jenna DeLoach hit a deep 3-pointer and when No. 23 Emma Hardy knocked down a pair of threes in back-to-back trips down the floor. The Lady Eagles extended their lead by 4 points in the final quarter to win by a score of 84-61, getting their 10th win in a row with just three games left in the season.
