On Tuesday, December 1, the Pensacola Christian College Eagles competed against the Point University Sky Hawks in the Eagles last home game of the semester. The Eagles had played the Sky Hawks earlier this season and were looking to improve their overall play against them.
The Eagles struggled to put the ball in the basket during the first half, as five attempts to score took place before the Eagles a shot went in.
Austin Lewis stole the ball and passed it to
Anthony Horton. Horton then scored the Eagles' first basket of the game, just the play the Eagles needed to find a shooting rhythm Yet the Eagles were unable to find it. Three minutes passed before the Eagles scored again, with a free throw by
James Shodimu. Over the next few minutes, both teams scored every time they went down the court, the Eagles scoring 14 points over that time frame. Although the Eagles were scoring, they were unable to match Point University's made shots, being behind 21 points at the highest point in the first half. In the last two minutes of the first half, the Eagles went on a 6–2 run, cutting that deficit to 17 points.
Even though the Eagles struggled to find the mark from the three-point line in the first half, they still shot 40 percent from the field.
The Eagles came out much stronger in the second half. Within the first few minutes,
Anthony Horton scored the Eagles' first points of the half, a 3-pointer assisted by
Austin Lewis. The next time down the court,
AJ Ward, assisted by
James Shodimu, added a basket. Though it seemed the Eagles had finally found their rhythm, but Point University had also found theirs. Around the 10-minute mark, the Eagles tightened up their defense and went on a 15–6 run, but the first half deficit proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome. The final score was 73–97.
While the score was not what the Eagles hoped for, there was vast improvement from the first to second half as the Eagles increased their overall shooting percentage to 48 percent with their 3-point percentage doubling. The Eagles also capitalized on second chance opportunities, beating Point University in the number of points scored off second chance shots.
Austin Lewis and
Caleb Ifill led the team in points scored, putting in 17 apiece.
AJ Ward followed closely behind with 14 points.
Christian Porter led the team in rebounds with seven, and
Austin Lewis led in assists with four. The team combined for seven blocks and eight steals.
The Eagles next game is Friday, December 4, at Truett McConnell University.
