Lady Eagles Host Tri-Match for Senior Night

On Friday, October 16, the PCC Lady Eagles volleyball team hosted a tri-match against Pearl River Community College and Pensacola State College. The Lady Eagles' first game of the evening was against Pearl River Community College. The second game, which was against Pensacola State College, served as Senior Night to honor the volleyball teams only senior, Ginger Cannon.

After a strong weekend of competition, the Lady Eagles entered the game hoping to begin the night with a win. However, they were unable to overcome Pearl River's aggressive offense and strong defense. PCC lost the game in three straight sets (25–11, 25–10, 25–18) with the team combining for only 13 kills and 30 digs.

The Lady Eagles did not let the first game's results hold them back. In the first set against Pensacola State College, the Lady Eagles quickly jumped a lead and held that lead through most of the first set. Despite their determination, they were unable to sustain the lead and lost the first set 23–25.

In the second set, the Lady Eagles worked to regain the momentum. Though the rallies were long and the teams alternated earning points, PCC came out with the 25–23 win.

Although the Lady Eagles won the second set they were unable to walk away with an overall win, with Pensacola State winning the third set 10–25 and the fourth set 13–25.

"These were two tough losses," Coach Ohman stated. "Our passing and setting looked good in the second match, but we didn't capitalize on opportunities for a kill in either one of the matches. However, we will take these losses as a learning experience for the next match."

While the night did not end with the wins the Lady Eagles were hoping for, it was a night filled with memories of honoring Ginger Cannon and her outstanding career as one of the Lady Eagles. Ginger ended the night with eleven kills, officially putting her total career kills over 600!

While their next volleyball game is Friday, October 23, in Greenville, SC against Bob Jones University, the Lady Eagles next home game will be their final home game of the season. Be sure to come out on October 30, to watch your Lady Eagles in person for the last time this year.
