Lady Eagles Earn Another Hard-Fought Win on the Road

The Lady Eagles were back in action Tuesday night in Jacksonville, FL.  The team played a big region matchup with Trinity Baptist College.  The Eagles were hoping to bounce back after a tough loss Saturday at Huntingdon College.

The Lady Eagles started off great in the first quarter as back-to-back threes from Caitlyn Benedik helped build the lead after the first quarter score of 16-10.  The second quarter was back and forth and saw a slower pace because of fouls and free throw attempts.  Even though the pace was slower the Lady Eagles led 33-25 at the half.

As the second half started, the Eagles came out ready and extended their lead 47-32.  The third quarter push was led by strong play in the paint and capitalizing on the free throw line. In the fourth quarter the Lady Eagles stretched the lead to as many as 20, but Trinity Baptist closed the game well and pulled the score even closer. The Lady Eagles persevered to gain a big region win of 62-50.

Lauran Alvarez had another double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Also, Leah Phelps scored in double figures with 11 points.  Sandy McElhaney led in rebounds with 15 total rebounds.

After the game Coach Sellars had this to say: "I am really proud of the team for getting a big win in a very physical game.  We rebounded very well tonight, and Sandy had a great night on the boards with 15 rebounds.  I wish we would have taken better care of the ball and the lead, but overall a solid team win.  We have been on the road for thirteen days now, and the legs aren't quiet there, but we are battling and getting after it.  We are ready for a day off and then preparing for the next one."
