Eagles Win National Championship 1-0 in Overtime

Kissimmee, FL – After a hard fought game against Providence University College, our Eagles soccer team finished the National Championship (1-0) with a golden goal from Nick Standridge in overtime to receive their second national title in the past 3 years!

The Eagles and Pilots came into this game full of energy, knowing that the winner would be named National Champion in the NCCAA DII Men's Soccer league. The Eagles and Pilots exchanged very close goal attempts for both the first and second halves of the game, with neither team scoring. Both team's goal keepers displayed a nail-biting performance on each end of the field. From defending against bicycle kicks to headers, both goal keepers had their work cut out for them.

The Eagles took 22 shots in the first and second halves, while the Pilots only took 10 shots. Adam Lund successfully stopped two near goal attempts in the first and second halves, leaving the Eagles' goal untouched by the Pilots. Despite the impressive offensive performance from the Eagles, the Pilot's goal keeper finished with fourteen saves against the Eagles, successfully defending against the offensive pressure.

After 90 minutes of goal attempt exchanges and a multitude of saves, the Eagles and Pilots headed into overtime. The Eagles continued their offensive pressure with 4 close shot attempts. With just 35 seconds left on the clock in overtime, the Eagles knew they had to score. Riley Buchalski drilled a long pass to Nick Standridge. Nick Standridge weaved through the defense, found an open gap, and scored a long goal to secure the Eagles' National Championship win!

Four Eagles athletes secured a spot in the All-Tournament team – Jake McClelland, Clint Peterson, Nick Standridge, and Paul Stewart. Eagles' player Nick Standridge was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
