Pensacola, Florida – Our Lady Eagles Volleyball team rallied after losing the first set tying the Hawks 1-1, but the overpowering Hawks answered back to secure their win over the Eagles in a 4-set loss in tonight's non-conference home matchup.
Baylee Jenson (17),
Kalista Harvey (10), and
Ginger Cannon (10) combined lead the team with 37 kills, while
Piper Bledsoe added a team high 21 assists. The Lady Eagles recorded 47 kills in the match with a .227 hitting percentage.
The Lady Eagles kills were not landing in the first set, hitting only 8% of them, while the Hawks were able to achieve a 32% kill percentage. The Eagles stepped up their game in the second set and was able to triple their kill success rate from 8% to 26%. The Eagles took the second set tying the Hawks 1-1. In the third set, the Lady Eagles fell into the same kill percentage rut as in the first, landing only 13/40 of their kill attempts. The Eagles held their ground for the majority of the fourth set until the score was 23-24. Hawks player, Addison Genard, secured their victory with one final kill to end the match. The Lady Eagles lost the match 1-3 to the Hawks.
Coach Calyn Ohman had some closing thoughts about the match, "Huntingdon is a very good team with very talented players. They hit hard and they hit well. Although we lost today's match we believe this loss will help us prepare for regionals and show us what needs to be improved before then."
The Lady Eagles next match is on 10/26/2019 where they will play conference rivals Welch College and Trinity Baptist College at 3 and 7 pm central time.
