PENSACOLA, Florida–Our Lady Eagles Basketball team road an early offensive onslaught to a dominant 74-36 victory over Wesleyan College in today's non-conference match-up.
Jessica Boyd led the way in scoring for the Lady Eagles, finishing with 14 points on 3-7 shooting. Three Lady Eagles finished with double-digit scoring outputs–Boyd (14), McElhaney (11), and Hardy (13). Ashton Welborn and Joy Smith tied for the team lead in rebounds while Haley Sailors and Sandy McElhaney each recorded 3 assists.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early 18-0 run behind the hot-shooting Jessica Boyd, who finished the game with a team-leading 14 points. The Lady Eagles rode the early advantage to a 23-6 lead at the end of one quarter of play.
In the 2nd quarter, the team continued to display a dominant offense. The strong shooting performance continued in the 2nd quarter of action. The team shot 16-33 (48%) from the floor in the opening half of basketball. The Lady Eagles led at the half 42-16.
In the 2nd half, the Lady Eagles emptied their bench. The team saw 11 players record a basket in the contest while 13 of 15 player recorded more than 10 minutes of game action. The Lady Eagles reserves scored 28 points off the bench in the ball game. The team went on to secure a dominant 74-36 victory over Wesleyan College.
"We competed from the opening whistle," Head Coach Jared Sellars said afterwards. "Our pressure from the start was great and our flow was definitely there is this one!"
The victory moved the Lady Eagles season record to 2-2 with wins over Welch College and Wesleyan College. The Lady Eagles next game will come against Florida College at home on Thursday, November 7 during the three day Lady Eagles Invitational Tournament.
