BIRMINGHAM, Alabama–Our Eagles Basketball team gave up a season-high 19 three-pointers in today's 102-70 non-conference loss to Birmingham-Southern College.
Dakota Pratt finished with a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds, in tonight's losing effort. Three Eagles–Pratt (17), Rose (16), and Johnson (13)–finished with double-digit scoring outputs. Pratt led the team in rebounding while Johnson turned in a team-high two assists in the contest.
The two teams traded buckets in the opening minutes of the first half in tonight's road match-up. With 16 minutes left in the first half, the Panthers scored their first of a season-high 19 three pointers. Back-to-back-to-back three-pointers gave the Panthers an early advantage, and they never looked back. At the end of the 1st half, the Panthers led our Eagles 60-30.
In the 2nd half, the Eagles tried to get back into the contest, but the Panthers torrid hot offense proved to be too much. Dakota Pratt and Tyler Rose combined for 18 of the team's 40 second-half points. Despite the strong performances from Pratt and Rose, the Eagles were unable to cut into the large Panthers lead. The Eagles would go on to lose tonight's matchup 102-70.
"Defense starts with stopping the dribble drive. We weren't able to stop the dribble drive tonight which led to too many open three-point attempts," Head Coach Mark Goetsch said after the game. "In the 2nd half, we were able to stop the dribble drive and rebound the basketball which led to a much improved effort."
With the loss, the Eagles dropped to 1-9 on the season after a tough early-season non-conference schedule. The team will travel to play NCAA DII Shorter University on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. CT in Rome, GA.
