Eagles Hang Tough Against NCAA DII Spring Hill College

PENSACOLA, Florida–Our Eagles Basketball team hung tough against NCAA DII Spring Hill College in tonight's 98-91 non-conference home loss.

Jared McCrillis led all scorers with a career-high 28 points in tonight's loss to the visiting Badgers. The Eagles saw five players–McCrillis (28), Rose (21), Poole (12), Pratt (10), and Johnson (10)–finish in double-digits. Ian Johnson and Jared McCrillis tied for the team lead with 7 rebounds apiece while Johnson also finished with a team-high 5 assists.

The Eagles stormed out to an early advantage against the Badgers in tonight's home matchup. The team led by as many as 10 points in the first half, behind the strong shooting of Tyler Rose and Adam Poole. The Badgers were able to get back into the game with a late second half run. Spring Hill College ended the half on a strong offensive run behind the play of guard Gresyn Rogers and took a 98-91 lead into the half.

The visiting Badgers stretched their 10-point lead at the beginning of the 2nd half to as many as 14, but the Eagles battled their way back into the game. Adam Poole and Tyler Rose hit a combined 10 three-pointers in the game and helped lead a spirited Eagles comeback attempt.  Despite the late game heroics from Jared McCrillis who hit back-to-back three points late in the 2nd half, the Eagles went on to lose a tight 98-91 battle.

"These guys are used to playing at a pretty high speed and our guys matched them step for step." Head Coach Mark Goetsch continued after the game, "We were able to make some good adjustments at halftime, but Spring Hill was just a slightly better team in tonight's game."

The loss was the Eagles seventh consecutive defeat, but the team showed signs of turning around their slow start. The team will look to break their long losing streak in tomorrow's road matchup with Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi at 7:30 p.m.
