Jared Sellars has been the head women’s basketball coach at Pensacola Christian College since 2011. He grew up in Jesup, Georgia, before attending PCC, where he graduated, in 2000, with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
After graduating college, Sellars moved back to Georgia and began working at Faith Christian Academy. While teaching at FCA, he coached basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, and golf. He also served as FCA’s athletic director for the eleven years he worked there. As the varsity boys’ basketball coach, Sellars led his team to an overall record of 256-72 as well as eight state championships.
After eleven years of serving at FCA, God opened the doors for Sellars to return to PCC to coach and teach. “I really enjoyed my time at PCC as a student,” Coach Sellars said, “And I have always wanted to come back and be a part of the athletic program as a coach.”
Sellar’s coaching philosophy is to use the competitive nature of sports to help him and his players mature in their spiritual and personal life by demanding both discipline and dedication. “In basketball,” he says, “We want to play hard, play smart, and play together. We want our players to enjoy playing the game of basketball while learning to be successful in a tough competitive environment.”
During his tenure as the head women’s basketball coach, Sellars has led the Lady Eagles to eight South Region Championships and eleven straight National Tournament appearances. He has been awarded South Region Coach of the Year four times and National Coach of the Year twice. His overall record as the Lady Eagles head coach is 253–138 (84–9 in conference).
Sellars has been married to his wife Heather since June of 1999. Together they have two children, Abby and Maddie. In his spare time, Sellars enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family.
