Calyn Ohman has been the head women’s volleyball coach at Pensacola Christian College since the spring of 2017. Ohman grew up in Pensacola, Florida, before attending Pensacola Christian College. In 2006, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
After graduating, Ohman was hired to teach at Pensacola Christian Academy. During her two years at PCA, she taught and coached volleyball. After teaching at PCA, Ohman accepted a position as an editor at Abeka but she continued to coach volleyball at PCA for an additional five years.
When the head volleyball coach at PCC announced her retirement, Ohman applied for a job. “I grew up at Pensacola Christian College, and I have always wanted to coach volleyball,” Ohman said. “I love the college’s spiritual emphasis. That emphasis, along with the opportunity and the responsibility to influence my team to be godly leaders are two of the things that led me to apply for the coaching job.”
Ohman has participated in athletics for most of her life. As a student, she played volleyball, participated in track and field, and avidly joined pick-up games for all sports. As an adult, she focuses on volleyball. She has certifications from Human Kinetics for Coaching Volleyball and the Art of Coaching for Coaching Level 1 and Setter Coach Level 1. Ohman is currently working on her Coaching Level 2 certifications.
As a coach, Ohman understands that sports are not the end goal, but instead are tools that can help teach valuable life lessons. She believes that “Every talk, touch, and thought should exemplify Christ.”
During her time as the head women’s volleyball coach at PCC, Ohman has led the team to an overall record of 101–106, including a record against conference opponents of 43–26. In addition, the team has participated in three South Region Championship games and appeared in one National Tournament. In the 2020 season, Ohman received the South Region Coach of the Year Award.
Ohman has been married to her husband Jack since 2006. Together they have two children, Carson and Kylie. In her spare time, Ohman likes to read, spend time with her family, and watch her children play sports.
